Verna Ethel Jennings, 78, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arch L. Heady Westport Road in Louisville. Cards of condolence may be sent to Mr. Alvin Jennings, 8710 Hickory Court, Louisville, KY 40242.

Verna was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Sioux City. She married Alvin Jennings on Sept. 3, 1947. After he retired from the postal service in 1984, they traveled extensively for the next four years. It was the greatest joy of both their lives as they visited all 50 states. In 1988, they retired to Apache Junction, Ariz. They moved to Louisville in December 2004, to be closer to their family.

She is survived by her husband, Alvin; two daughters, Patricia (Donald) Cheever and Marcia (Corky) Bailey of Williamsburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Amy Bailey of Chevy Chase, Md., Matt (Sarah) Cheever, Bob (fiancee, Michelle Burke) Cheever of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Jacque (Kevin) Tremmel of Hinton, Iowa; and two great-granddaughters, Kelsey Bonham and Sophia Cheever.
