SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Glen M. Riibe, 78, of South Sioux City passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Moores officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 307 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service, and a private family burial will be at a later date.

Glen was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Hartington, Neb., the son of Minor L. and Edith L. (Dooley) Riibe. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a medic in a German hospital. He was honorably discharged in December 1952. He did various jobs including farmhand, working on the construction of the Gavins Point Dam, Midwest Culvert Company for 10 years and later for Mid-City Motors.

He married Dorothy M. Jurgensen in Le Mars, Iowa, on Feb. 4, 1954. To this union, five children were born, Robert, Edie, LeRoy, Vickie and Richard. He later married Hazel R. Leedom on Aug. 13, 1971, in Dakota City.

He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife; Hazel; his children, Robert and his wife, Sue of Sioux Falls, S.D., Edie and her husband, Robert Jones of Towanda, Kan., LeRoy of South Sioux City, Vickie Martin and her special friend, Doug Stoddard of Sioux City, and Richard and his wife, Lorie of Sioux City; a sister, Marge Benson of North Sioux City; three grandsons; stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Riibe; his twin sister, Leona Riibe; a sister, Rita Ann Wynn; and a grandson, George O. Harris IV.
