ANTHON, Iowa -- Roberta P. Petersen, 84, of Anthon passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Midway, rural Battle Creek, Iowa, with the Rev. Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Lunch will be served following the graveside services at Anthon Community Center. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Roberta Pearl Petersen was born in rural Anthon on Jan. 27, 1923, to Robert S. and Pearl (Admire) Lewis. She attended rural schools as well as Anthon Public School. She graduated from Anthon High School in 1941.

In 1941, she married Alfred Hamann. To this union a daughter, Janice, was born. Alfred died in World War II. In 1947, she married Marvin Petersen. Two children were born to this union, a son, Byron, and a daughter, Rhonda. In 1979, the couple retired and moved into Anthon.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and St. Paul Ladies Aid. She also taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed her family, friends, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Marvin; a son and his wife, Byron and Marcia Petersen of Mapleton, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Janice and Tom Umbach of Anthon and Rhonda and John Boddicker of Platte City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Randy Taylor, Suzanne Taylor and special friend, Randy Dose, Tiffany and her husband, Bill Fundermann, Jeni Umbach, Tony Umbach, Lincoln Umbach and his wife, Billie Jean, Mike Umbach and special friend, Lindsey Rosauer, Britton Petersen and special friend, John Morrisey, Hillary and her husband, Peter Seuntjens, Megan and her husband, Brian Fulk, Sarah and her husband, Russell McDaniels, and Zachary Boddicker and his wife, Brooke; eight great-grandchildren, Grant and Mason Taylor, Diedrch and Danielle Fundermann, Keegan Umbach, Jackson Morrisey and Brady and Reagan Seuntjens; a sister and her husband, Barbara and Charles Buckley of Maurice, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Robert and Eleanor Lewis of Correctionville, Iowa; and two

sisters-in-law, Enid Petersen of Anthon and Vera Petersen of Mapleton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and three brothers-in-law.
