M. Ethelyn Clemens, 95, of Beloit, Wis., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in Pioneer Court.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery at Luverne, Minn. Arrangements are under the direction of Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit.

Ethelyn was born March 15, 1912, in Hills, Minn., the daughter of Wilhelm T. and Ethel O. (Forster) Knudtson. The family moved to Garutson, S.D., in 1913. In 1927, they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where she graduated from Washington High School in 1930. Ethelyn attended Augustana College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1934. She later attended Iowa State University and the University of South Dakota for her graduate work.

Ethelyn taught school in Kansas and Iowa as a home economics instructor. In Sioux City, she taught at Woodrow Wilson Junior High and Central High School. In her later years, she became a guidance counselor. She retired from North High in Sioux City in 1976.

Prior to moving to Beloit, Ethelyn was active in several Sioux City organizations, including serving as president of the Quota Club International, president of the Siouxland Home Economics Association, vice president of Delta Kappa Gamma, chairman of the Sioux City M.S. Society and secretary of the Sioux City Republican Women"s Club. She was a member of the Sioux City Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, the Iowa Personnel and Guidance Association, Sioux City Retired Educators and Iowa and National Retired Teachers Association.

In 1979, Ethelyn moved to Beloit, where she joined Our Savior"s Lutheran Church and became a member of the Dorcas Circle. She was accepted as a transfer from the Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter in Sioux City to the Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter in Beloit and was honored as a 60-year member of that chapter.

Ethelyn was a loving and caring mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She was a gifted pianist and organist and recently played the piano for a memorial service at Pioneer Court.

She is survived by her son, William (Lu) Clemens of Beloit, Wis.; grandson, Michael (Cindy) Clemens and John Clemens; great-granddaughters, Sarah and Caroline Clemens; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert (Elaine) Knudtson; and sister, Dorothy (Robert) Bowe.

Memorials may be given in Ethelyn"s name to Our Savior"s Lutheran Church, 757 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI.
