SIOUX CITY | Larry L. Maxfield, 74, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center--Sioux City, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Larry was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Sioux City, to Dale L. and Kathryn R. (Smith) Maxfield. He graduated in 1961 from Heelan High School.

He married Jeannie O'Neil July 11, 1961, in Willis, Neb. Larry then joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1961, and was honorably discharged in 1965.

He was a firefighter with the Sioux City Fire Department from 1965 until retiring in 1978. He was the manager of Rollerama in Sioux City for several years, and owned a tree service business for a number of years.

Larry was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City, and the American Legion in Jackson, Neb. He was a youth coach for Morningside Little League.

He was the family's handy man, and enjoyed doing projects for the family. He enjoyed boating, fishing, spending time at his cabin on Lake Shetek, country western music, and his vitamins (Bud Light).

Survivors include his daughter, Lori (Dean) Gregory of Colorado Springs, Colo.; son, Jeffrey (Cindy) Maxfield of Sergeant Bluff; grandchildren, Zachary (Amy) Prince, Nichole Prince and Levi Maxfield; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jaxson; siblings, Cheryl Maxfield Harling-Hamm of Sioux City, Jackie (Jack) Mossberg of McKinney, Texas, twin brother Garry (Bev) Maxfield of Sergeant Bluff and Carol (Emmett) Albenesius of Dakota County; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Norma and Frank O'Neil; brothers-in-law, Jim Harling, Don Hamm, Jim Dillon and Jerry O'Neil; and nephews, James "Duce" Harling, Tod "Gig" Harling and Kirk Mossberg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
