SIOUX CITY | Gale A. Olson, 68, of Bloomington, Ill., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

Entombment was held on Jan. 22 at Park Hill Cemetery Mausoleum in Bloomington. To honor his memory a Celebration of Life gathering, for immediate family and close friends, will be held in May at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

Gale was born on July 9, 1947, in Sioux City, the son of Carl L. and Viola M. (Bjork) Olson. Gale graduated from East High School in 1965. He then attended Dana College in Blair, Neb., before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Christine R. Anderson on May 31, 1969, in Rockford, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1995. After his military service, he returned to college and received a bachelor's degree in art. Gale enjoyed his career as an artist and engraver working for Josten's in Memphis, Tenn. He was a major contributor to the Successories Corporate lineup in Bloomington. He then worked at B&B Awards in Bloomington.

He attended Evangelical Free Church in Bloomington, where he served on the Mission board. He also enjoyed fishing, flying his airplane, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include a brother, Jerry L. (Jean) Olson of Salem, Ore.; a sister, Karlene (Ed) Hohenstein of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Mercia (David) Fredrick of Bloomington; four nieces, Dawn Jackson, Suzanne (Brian) Morace, and Dianne (John) Joyner, all of Oregon, and Bethany (Mark) Nielsen of Sioux City; two nephews, Matthew (Barb) Fredrick and Aaron (Becky) Fredrick, both of Illinois; 12 grandnieces and nephews; and several great-grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gale will be greatly missed but always cherished.
