SLOAN, Iowa -- Dorothy E. Peterson, 90, of Sloan died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with the Rev. Richard J. Moore officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Dorothy was born Dec. 8, 1912, in a log cabin in Monona County, Iowa, the only child of Carl and Elenora (Johnson) Jacobson. She was educated in Sloan Public School and received a degree in music from Morningside College in Sioux City.

She married Herbert Peterson on Aug. 5, 1937, at the Swedish Covenant Church, located across the road from her parent's home, near Albaton. The couple lived in the Sloan area their 50 years of marriage. Herbert passed away Dec. 13, 1987. She had been a resident of Pleasant View Care Center the past 10 years.

She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church, Covenant Women of Sloan and Lossing Homemakers. She enjoyed playing the piano for many Sunday School and church events for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker and loved to bake, read, write letters, embroider and made many quilts. She also enjoyed reading her Bible daily.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Carlton and Sally of Marshalltown, Iowa, Keith and Pat of Sloan and Kenneth and Marcia of Sloan; eight grandchildren, Marian Wieneke, Ellen Schumann, Brian Peterson, Joan Choquette, Vicky Terrill, Kim Comstock, Jason Peterson and Jamie Peterson; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Peterson.
