SIOUX CITY | David M. “Dave” Harbeck, 60, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at his home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Services will be 4 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with John Sandman officiating. Air Force military honors will conclude the service. Per Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation with the family will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. The American Legion Riders Post 241 with a military flag line will be present.

Dave was born Dec. 9, 1955, in Sioux City, to Donald R. and Geraldine Harbeck. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1974. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1977 until 1981.

In 1983 he married JoAnn “Jo." To that union two children, Tyler and Lindsey were born. The couple later divorced and have remained best friends.

Dave was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years. He then owned and operated his own painting company and just recently retired.

Dave enjoyed football, fishing and coaching Little League. He volunteered for the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the Gospel Mission during Christmas and Meals on Wheels. He loved to play all sorts of games, but never cared if he won. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren very much. His wit and humor will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his children, Kenna Harbeck and her four children of Milan, Ill., Tyler Harbeck and his wife, Melissa of Brookings, S.D., and Lindsey and her husband, Jarrod Roder of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Emma Harbeck, Tristan Roder and on the way, Oliver Mark Harbeck; his father, Don Harbeck of Sioux City; three siblings, Dan Harbeck and his wife, Alana of Idaho Springs, Colo., Kathy and her husband, Gene Salmon of Sioux City, and Bradley Harbeck and his wife, Kim of Chandler, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and an infant granddaughter, Shae Harbeck.

The family suggests memorials in Dave’s name to Hospice of Siouxland or Wounded Warriors Project, in care of the family.
