Marvin Britton, 76, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016, at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, where visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, July 25, 2016, with family present from 6 PM to 8 PM and a Time of Remembrance at 7 PM. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Marvin Lavern, son of Lavern and Margaret (Frazee) Britton, was born September 21, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa. His grade school years were spent in Wisconsin before his family settled in Sioux City. Marvin worked in the brickyard and for various farmers as well as the Sioux City Stockyards before starting a 35-year career with IBP.

In 1960, Marvin was united in marriage with Judy Keegan in Sioux City. Four children were born to this marriage which later ended in divorce. In 1988, Marvin was blessed with a second marriage, this time with Marlys Bell DeGroot in McCook Lake, South Dakota.

Marvin enjoyed playing cards, watching western movies, watching the Chicago Cubs, and improving and remodeling his house. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Marvin is survived by: his wife Marlys Britton of Merrill; four children: Jeff(Laurie) Britton of Anthon; Corrine (Jerry) Vakulskas of Sioux City; Mike (Jan) Britton of Onawa and Bob (Shelley) Britton of Sioux City; five step-children: Ron (Cheri) DeGroot; Julie (Barry) Bower; Lisa (Pat) Blaylock; Jeff (Joanne) DeGroot and Debbie (Mike) Elgert; siblings: Margaret Mickelson; Phillip Britton; Rod Britton; Ralph Britton and Delores Kurtz; nine grandchildren: Josh, Jason, John, Charli, Ryan, Andrew, Lyndsay, Nicole and Lucas; six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren: Jennifer, Breanne, Jessica, Kristen, Matt, Brandon and Shelby; and several step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Eugene and Chuck.
