SIOUX CITY | Edward Dale Frank, 84, of Sioux City entered into heaven on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven McLoud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.chrsitysmith.com.

Ed was born on March 13, 1932, in Lesterville, S.D., to Rienhard and Pauline (Wacker) Frank. He was raised in rural South Dakota and attended school through the eighth grade, after which he helped on the family farm.

He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 23, 1950, where he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 22, 1953.

Ed was united in marriage to Mary Ann Simeon on April 30, 1955, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. Ed and Mary Ann spent their first three years of marriage in South Dakota. They moved to Sioux City and lived there for 11 years. The next 45 years of their lives were spent raising their family on an acreage in rural Sioux City.

He met Mary Ann at the Sunshine grocery store where they both worked. Ed later worked at the Sioux City Stockyards and Kraco Asphalt. In 1981, Ed along with his eldest son, Dale, started a successful asphalt company, Frank’s Asphalt, providing a needed service to their valued customers which led to many longtime friendships. Ed semi-retired in 2011 but continued to stay actively involved in day-to-day operations of the business up until his death.

Ed’s early hobbies included dancing, playing cards with family and friends and bowling on several leagues. Later in life, he enjoyed restoring antique tractors and attending local stock car races where he also developed many friendships, but most importantly, his favorite hobby of all was “work.”

Ed and Mary Ann traveled extensively domestically and worldwide, but their favorite destination was Alaska. Sadly, Ed lost the love of his life and best friend, Mary Ann on March 18, 2014.

Left to mourn the loss of this extraordinary, wonderful man include his eight children, Dale (Jean) Frank, Cynthia (Tim) Meyers, Keith Frank, Suzanne (Rob) Long, Sandra (Jake) McClure, Kurt (Lynn) Frank, Valerie (Ken) Maxfield and Jennifer (Harold) Mackey, all of Sioux City, 23 grandchildren, Nicole, Tonya, Shane, LeeAnn, Jason, Joshua, Kayci, Alexa, Lily, Rachael, Ann Dee, Chad, Chris, Ashley, Cortney, Emily, Paige, Faith, Alysha, Nic, Maya, Harrison and Noah, 19 great-grandchildren, Autumn, Tyler, Zach, Jaycee, McKenzie, Reed, Alexis, Kalei, Dylan, Emma, Tristen, Jacob, Jet, Aliyah (in heaven), Alanee, Theo, Cash, Jace and Leilah; six stepgrandchildren, Jeremy, Kalie, Courtney, Markie, Asah and Aleta; sister, Darlene LeBeau; brother, Fred (Dorothy) Frank; and countless extended family and friends.
