10 February 2007MARCUS, Iowa -- Gertrude H. (Viken) Peterson Lynn, 89, of Marcus died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Liz Pfeifle officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.
Gertrude Helen Viken was born in Sioux City on Dec. 20, 1917, to John and Marguerite (Schreier) Viken. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was married to John "Bud" Peterson in Sioux City on April 29, 1938. They had five children, Nancy (Max) Drefke, Richard Peterson, Barb (the late Paul) Jorgensen, John (Sandy) Peterson and Diane (Keith) Grage. John died Dec. 8, 1958.
She married Dale Lynn on Nov. 9, 1962, in Marcus. Dale had three children, Jim Lynn, Virginia (Steve) St. Amand and Janet (Clem) Brown. Dale passed away Nov. 13, 2001.
She enjoyed making all kinds of crafts. She was an excellent homemaker and cook. She especially loved baking pies.
She dearly loved the grandchildren, Donna Drefke, LeAnn (Brian) Miller, Kenny (Lisa) Drefke, Tammie (John) Atchison, Karen Jorgensen, Paul Jorgensen Jr., John Peterson Jr., Vickie (Noren) Livingston, Alan (fiancee Kerri), Jessica and Body Grage, Shyam Lynn, Robin (BJ) Love, Shane and Brett Hartgrave and Meghan, Brendan and Bridget Kelly; great-grandchildren, Brian Drefke, Justine Lynn, John Jr. and Jacob Atchison, Christian Livingston and Mickey Kelly; and her siblings, Marguerite (Clarence) Pearson, John (Darlene) Viken, Harvey (Donna) Viken and Betty (Al) Gries; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and an infant son, Richard on July 20, 1941.
