SIOUX CITY | Stanley Raymond Venne Jr., 79, of Sioux City, formerly of Escanaba, Mich., died Aug. 7, 2016, at Whispering Creek Active Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Escanaba. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.christysmith.com.

Stanley was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Gladstone, Mich., to Stanley R. Sr. and Antoinette (D'Amour) Venne. He grew up and attended school in Escanaba, graduating from St. Joseph's High School in Escanaba. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and served for two years being honorably discharged in 1958. Stanley went on to attend Michigan State University graduating in 1961.

He married Lois Anne Wendelcke on Sept. 2, 1961, in East Lansing, Mich. The couple moved to New York City and Stanley worked for AT&T. Then in 1965 they moved to Milwaukee, Wis., and Stanley went to work for the Burroughs Corporation until 1968, when they moved to Powers, Mich., and he went to work for the Pine Timber Corporation in Powers.

He was a member of St. Joseph's and St. Anne’s Catholic Churches in Escanaba. Stanley belonged to the Logging Congress and was a past member of the Escanaba Jaycees. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with his wife, spending time with his dear friends and family, relaxing at camp with his friend, Don Lang, and playing cards like a shark.

Surviving are his wife, Lois; his four children, Stanley R. Venne III of Phoenix, Ariz., and his children, Hunter and Cody, Denise Gallagher and her husband, Patrick of Phoenix, and their children, Cully and Brodey, Stephen Venne and his wife, Beth of Sioux City, and their children, Max, Olivia, Jake, Sophia and Nate, Elizabeth Carabas and her husband, Themios of Portland, Ore., and their children, Alexos, Elena and Dorian; two sisters, Mary Lou Thivierge and her husband, Arthur of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Joan Peterson and her husband, Jack of Kalamazoo, Mich.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael Venne.

Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army of Escanaba, MI or the Delta County Cancer Alliance.
