Richard Gabriel Sr., 60, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with Major Richard Trimmell of the Salvation Army officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. There will be a luncheon immediately following at the Moose Lodge in South Sioux City.

Richard "Rick" was born on Oct. 21, 1946, in Onaka, S.D., the son of Anthony and Lillian (Geisinger) Gabriel.

He married Deanna Dunham on June 17, 1968. Shortly after, he began working for the Benson Building in Sioux City as the assistant manager, where he continued to work until his untimely death.

He was a member of The Independent Order of Foresters for many years and The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2411 in South Sioux City, where he earned the honor of Fellow.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna Gabriel; his mother, Lillian Gabriel; three sons, Joseph Gabriel and his wife, Judy of Sioux City, Richard Gabriel Jr. of South Sioux City and Steven Gabriel and his wife, Amy of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Shirley and her husband, Sam Henkelvig of Emmetsburg, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Louis and Cathy Gabriel of Coon Rapids, Mich. and Dave and Chris Gabriel of Gail Port, Fla.; two sisters, Jean Noe of Tucson, Ariz. and Pam Hankins and her husband, Skippy of Homer, Neb.; and seven grandchildren, Kayley, Kourtney, Howard, Derek, Cedric, Jacob and Samantha.
