Anna J. Sponder, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Michael T. Larkin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Anna was born June 21, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Laska) Sponder. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident. In her younger days, she attended St. Francis School and Church. She was very proud of her Polish heritage. She worked for Jolly-Time Popcorn Company and was very proud of the 20 years employment there. She continued to keep in close contact with her friends at American Pop Corn Company.

When she was young, she was an avid bowler and loved doing Word Search books. She enjoyed joining her friends for their breakfast club every week. She was very close to her sister, Josephine, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She shared all their holidays and special occasions.

She is survived by a sister and her husband, Josephine and Dean Prather of Sioux City; two brothers, Stanley Sponder and Leo Sponder and his wife, Helen, all of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Roman, Steve, Charles, John, Pete and Joseph Sponder; and a sister, Pauline Provancha.
