Loretta L. Vlaanderen, 91, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Loretta donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Loretta was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Raymond and Ida (Holcomb) Woolridge. She moved with her family to Sioux City in 1924, where she attended Riverview Elementary, West Junior and graduated from Central High School in January 1933.

She married Herman LaPlante on June 2, 1934. He died in May 1976. She later married Richard Vlaanderen on Dec. 30, 1982. Richard died in January 1996.

Loretta had been active at Riverside United Methodist Church, where she had been a member since 1928. She taught Sunday school and was active with the women's groups. She had been on the Shesler Hall Board, Library Board and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed volunteering and church work. Loretta loved her church and was a faithful servant.

Survivors include two sons, Jim and Marty LaPlante of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Dr. Doug LaPlante of Dickinson, N.D.; a daughter, Cheryl and Boyd Bahney of Sioux City; a stepson, Jim and Mindy Vlaanderen of Sioux City; six grandsons, Mike and Brandi LaPlante of Lehi, Utah, Dave and Laura LaPlante of Huntington Beach, Calif., Todd and Tracy Bahney of Sioux City, Tim and Chelsea Bahney of Portland, Ore., Scott LaPlante of Minneapolis, Minn., and Josh LaPlante of Dickinson, N.D.; a granddaughter, Shelli LaPlante of Fargo, N.D.; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Woolridge of California; two sisters, Louise and Bill McConnell of Sioux City, and Naomi Woolridge of San Bernardino, Calif.; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dr. Marilyn LaPlante; and two brothers, Glenn Woolridge and Gordon Woolridge.
