Mary "Penny" Newton, 53, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following her brave battle with cancer.

A gathering of Mary's friends to celebrate her life will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Elks Lodge, 1001 Tri View Avenue, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Mary was born July 6, 1953, in Sioux City, the daughter of William O. and Beverly A. (Desy) Beaver. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1971. She attended Briar Cliff College. She spent her working lifetime in the catering service, catering at the Marina Inn, Hilton and other area inns. She enjoyed being around people.

Survivors include her longtime partner of 17 years, Dennis "Swede" Lofshult; a son, Aaron Newton and his wife, Margaret and grandson, Ashton of Sioux City; her mother, Beverly Beaver of Sioux City; five brothers, Jerry Beaver and Kathy of Sioux City, William F. and Marcella of Buckeye, Ariz., Pat and Lynette of Good Year, Ariz., Ray and Charmaine of Sioux City, and David Beaver of Sioux City; six sisters, Lynn McFarland and Mike of Sioux City, Barb Beaver and Steve of Bronson, Iowa, Tammy Solomon of Sioux City, Sheryl Oehlerking and Bill of Hornick, Iowa, Sheila Oligmueller and Rick of Dakota City, and Nancy Beaver of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. She will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, an aunt, uncles, a niece and a nephew.
