Arthur E. "Butch" Hitt Sr., 74, of Canby, Minn., formerly of Toronto, S.D. and Sioux City, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Senior Haven in Canby.

Memorial services were held Feb. 1 at Senior Haven Nursing Home Chapel in Canby, where the Rev. Jeff Cooper of First Baptist Church officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Birk Funeral Home in Canby, where condolences may be sent online to www.birkfuneralhome.com.

Arthur was born April 21, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of Lester and Birdie (Brewer) Hitt Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves after active duty and was discharged in 1961. He worked at All Power Manufacturing in Sioux City for many years as a machinist.

When his children were young, he would take them camping and fishing in Minnesota and Oregon. In his spare time, he enjoyed puzzle books, watching television and playing cards.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Hitt of Toronto, S.D., and Connie Hitt of Missouri; a son, Arthur Hitt Jr. of Toronto; eight grandchildren; and three brothers, Lester Hitt Jr. and Kenny Hitt, both of Sioux City and Larry Hitt of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean and Harry Hitt; his first wife, Donna (Daniels) Roost; and his second wife, Rosa.
