Clarence Anthony "Sonny" Archambeau Jr., 57, formerly of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, in Hoven, S.D.

Services were held Jan. 9 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Marty, S.D. Burial was in Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery, Greenwood, S.D.

Sonny was born Dec. 22, 1949, in Wagner, S.D., the son of Clarence A. and Ramona H. (Provost) Archambeau. He attended school in Greenwood and Marty Indian School. He also attended high school at Sioux City Central High. He worked for his grandfather, Percey Archambeau, on the farm during his teen years.

In 1969, he married Julieann Anderson of Sioux City. Together, they had three daughters, Tina Archambeau (Sully), Sonya Archambeau (Krosch) and Tonya Archambeau. He worked as a carpenter and mechanic in Sioux City and in California during the 1970s and early 1980s.

He then moved to Aberdeen, S.D., in the mid 1980s, where he met Melody LaBatte and had two more children, Brian and Ranea Archambeau. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Aberdeen Area office in the roads division as an equipment specialist for about 20 years, retiring on Dec. 1, 2006.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pool, horseshoes, cooking out and being with all of his children and helping them with anything they needed. He loved to laugh, joke and tease with family, friends and co-workers. He had a nickname for everyone and always was willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his mother, Ramona Archambeau of Wagner, S.D.; daughters, Tina (Sam) Sully of Wagner, S.D., Sonya (Scott) Krosch of Kingsley, Iowa, and Tonya Archambeau of Sioux City; sons, Gannon Avery of Niobrara, Neb., and Michael Stetson of Sioux City; a special friend, Melody LaBatte of Aberdeen; a son, Brian of Aberdeen, daughter, Ranea Archambeau of Aberdeen; stepsons, Andy and Kelly LaBatte, both of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren and one on the way, Michael Barrett of Sioux City, Devan and Dallas Tronvold of Lake Andes, S.D., Darius, Jordan, Tre (Grandpa's Li l' Brutus) and Jersey Sully, all of Wagner, Winnon Avery of Niobrara, Neb., Shauna Avery of Sioux Falls, S.D., two Stetsons of Sioux City and a little granddaughter on the way from Kingsley, Iowa; two sisters, Jeanie and Alice Archambeau, both of Wagner; two brothers, Francis Archambeau of Langford, S.D., and Jim Bruguier of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence "Chuck" Archambeau Sr.; grandparents, Percey and Helena (Bernie) Archambeau and Everett and Evelyn (LaClaire) Provost; an infant brother, Alan Archambeau; and an infant niece, Erica Azure.
