Helen P. Norman, 93, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Helen was born Sept. 11, 1913, to George and Esther (Larson) Gorder, of Lead, S.D. She moved to Sioux City with her parents at a young age. She grew up and attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1931.

On July 3, 1936, she married Clifford Norman Sr. in Jefferson, S.D. During World War II, the couple moved to Alameda, Calif., where she worked as a Rosie Riveter in the shipyards. After the end of the war, they returned to Sioux City. She was a resident of Sioux City for 88 years. She worked as a clerk at Woolworth's and at Zenith for seven years. She also worked at several other places throughout the years.

She is survived by four granddaughters, Kathy Hippensteel and her four children, Dakota, Briez, Rylee and Cheyann Hippensteel, Deborah of Texas, Ronda of Sioux City and Mitzy of Texas; a sister and her husband, Jean and Robert Fryrear of Madison, Conn. and her children, Steve Fryrear and Sandra and her daughter, Alexandra; several other great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Jane; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford Sr.; a son, Clifford Jr.; and two sisters, Mildred Gorder and Francis Betty Johnston.
