Ruth M. Weir, 91, of Sioux City died Monday, May 20, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Community of Christ, 3232 Transit Ave., with Elder Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Order of the Eastern Star service, all at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Weir was born Nov. 15, 1910, in Anna, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Jessie (Casper) Smith. She grew up in Anna and moved to Chicago in 1927.

She married Wayne Hall in 1929, in Chicago. He died in 1967, in Sioux City. She married Wilson Weir in 1971, in Sioux City.

She worked for J. Watt Wooldridge Insurance Agency as a bookkeeper from 1950 until retiring. After her retirement, she traveled throughout the United States and became an accomplished tole painter.

She was a member of Community of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star Croix Chapter 400 and Daughters of the Nile.

Survivors include her husband, Wilson Weir of Sioux City; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Gerald Thomas, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Belva Thompson of Dow City, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Waldene Ramesbotham of Sioux City; two sisters, Julia Schroeder of Iron River, Mich., and Helen Kryl of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren, Amy Thomas, Alan Thomas and Sarah Fultz; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Faye Hestrapfer, Edna Smith and Pauline Haigh; two infant brothers; an infant son; and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Mike McMann, Larry Bruce, Curtis Thompson, Gerald Thomas and Donald Headley.
