Inez Smith Greeny, 93, of Sioux City died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Graveside services will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Inez Smith Greeny was born in Sioux City on March 31, 1909, to Maude Louise Adams and William M. Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She attended local schools including East High School. She was an avid ice skater with ambitions of becoming a speed skater. Her skating achievements prompted her being crowned Queen of Sioux City's Ice Carnival from 1928 to 1938.

She met her future husband, Burdette Greeny, while skating at the Gillman Terrace ice rink. They were married on Sept. 10, 1938. Inez studied at the Helena Rubenstein School of Cosmetics in New York and traveled for the company. She later worked for T.S. Marten and Younkers Davidson in Sioux City.

She dedicated her love and energy to supporting her husband and raising their three children, all having been members of Trinity Lutheran Church. She will be held in the hearts of her family and friends, who will remember her with loving admiration.

She is survived by a son, Burdette Greeny Jr. of Port Angeles, Wash.; a daughter, Marilyn Treabess of Tahoe City, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Sloan Greeny of Arlington, Va.; four grandchildren; and two nieces, Mary Deck and Shirley Heinke, both of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burdette; and a son, Larry.
