Elaine Jones, 81, lifelong Sioux City resident, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at a Sioux City care center following a lengthy illness.

The body was cremated. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Elaine was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Sioux City, to John and Florence (Gray) Monroe. She spent most of her life in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. She also attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.

She married Oren "Bud" Jones on Jan. 1, 1942, in South Sioux City.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught Bible school, served as deaconess, worked in Child Evangelism and served on several church committees over the years. She was a member of the Gideon's Auxiliary and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, where she served as a volunteer.

She is survived by her husband, "Bud"; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Ronald Dykhouse of Mountain Home, Ark.; a son and his wife, Timothy and Myla Jones of Bellevue, Neb.; two grandsons and their wives, Jason and Ellen Dykhouse and Jans and Jennifer Dykhouse; and two great-grandsons, Beckett and Fynn Dykhouse.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Connie Ann Jones; and a sister, Bernice Markl.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Gideon's International.
