Marian J. Van Der Maten, 81, of Camarillo, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, following a brief illness.

Services and burial were held in California.

Marian was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Avery and Addie Stickels. She graduated from Central High School and Morningside College. She had been a nine-year resident of Ventura, County, Calif., coming from Pasadena, Calif.

She was a professional violinist and violin music teacher of over 50 years. She was a concertmaster of the Sioux City Symphony, the Boulder Colorado Symphony and the Pasadena City College Community Orchestra.

She was a member of San Gabriel Valley Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, Highland park Symphony and numerous other orchestras.

She was an active member in chamber music as well as a member of the Schubert Club and Tuesday Musicale. She was an avid reader and enjoyed entertaining family members and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Frank of Camarillo; a daughter, Linda Deeter of Summerland, Calif.; and two brothers, Jack Stickels of Madison, Wis., and Avery Stickels of St. Paul. Minn.
