Herbert L. Hulse, 98, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Arnold Herbst of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Hulse was born March 3, 1904, in Keota, Iowa, the son of Addison and Georgia (Ramsey) Hulse. He grew up in Keota and graduated from Keota High School in 1922. He graduated from Cornell College in 1926, with a degree in accounting.

He married Pauline R. Randolph on Nov. 15, 1928, in Keota. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1933. He was employed with Ryal Miller Chevrolet Co., Miller Kidder Chevrolet Co., Kidder-Knoepfler Chevrolet Co., and finally Knoepfler Chevrolet, retiring in 1981 after 48 years. Mrs. Hulse died Sept. 2, 1999, in Sioux City.He was a former member of the Sertoma Club and the Business Leaders Club. He was current member of Tyrian Masonic Lodge 508 A.F. & A.M., Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies, Abu Bekr Shrine and he sang with the Shrine Chanters for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Sioux City Boat Club and Dakota Dunes Country Club for 45 years.

Survivors include a son-in-law, William Setser of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandsons, Randy and Bradly Setser and their families; a niece and her husband, Georgeanne and Jack Steele; and a nephew and his wife, Addison and Pat Hulse.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Setser; two sisters and two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or the Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
