Aged S.C. Man, Resident For 20 Years, Dies

For 20 years a resident of Sioux City, George Wright, 87 years old, died suddenly at his home at 510 Cook Street, Wednesday. Death was caused by old age.

Mr. Wright was born at Quebec, Can., in 1840. From early life until 1876, he lived at Black River Falls, Wis. Then he moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. where he was proprietor of the Central hotel for four years.

At Chamberlain, S.D. where he moved in 1880, he built and ran Wright house. On a trek from Mitchell, S.D. to Red Lake, in 1880 he was lost in a blizzard, but finally came upon Chamberlain and decided to settle there. Thirty years ago he was deputy United States marshal under Sam Maratta, of Yankton, S. D. for two terms.

Acting on a decision to become a stockman, Mr. Wright left Chamberlain and came to Sioux City in 1905.

Surviving Mr. Wright are his widow, Mrs. Mary Wright, a son, Charles who as a railroad conductor has his home in Miami, Florida, a brother-in-law, Mathew Timothy of Davenport, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jerry Kelly, of Moline, Illinois.

The body is at Kidd’s Funeral Chapel, pending arrangements.
