Woman Hangs Self On Bed

Pierson Resident Takes Own Life Because of Ill Health

Despondency because of ill health caused Mrs. John Haspell, 65 years old, a resident of Pierson, Iowa for many years, to hang herself at her home some time Tuesday night.

Mrs. Haspell was found dead early Wednesday afternoon in the bedroom of her home by the town marshal, who had been summoned by neighbors. She lived alone in the house and had not been seen since Tuesday evening.

Neighbors said that Mrs. Haspell had been in failing health recently and had been worried about her condition. She hanged herself to a bedpost with a piece of rag.

Mrs. Haspell apparently removed her clothing preparatory to retiring, but instead of going to bed had committed suicide.

Coroner J.H. Robbins, who was notified, said he would conduct an investigation. Efforts are being made by Pierson authorities to locate relatives of the women.
