John F. Krohn, 83, a lifelong Sioux City resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Thomas Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Monahan Post 64. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Krohn was born July 30, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of Harry and Dora (Doud) Krohn. He graduated from Central High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.

He married Marguarite Connel on April 20, 1940, in Sioux City. He was employed as a railroad agent for Milwaukee Railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Krohn died July 14, 1996, in Sioux City.

He was a member of Morningside Assembly of God Church, where he served in the church board for 33 years and as a deacon.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, James and Bonita Krohn and Mark and Barbara Krohn, all of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Harry W. and Donna Krohn Jr. of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Amy Krohn of Sioux City; and four grandsons, Michael, William, Matthew and Daniel.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Krohn; and two sisters, Mavis Rasmussen and Mildred Hamren.

Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons, James, Mark, Michael, William, Matthew and Daniel Krohn.
