Burton M. Lipshutz, 77, lifelong Sioux City resident, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Congregation Beth Shalom, with Rabbi Bonnie Leavy officiating and James Sherman co-officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mr. Lipshutz was born June 16, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Morey and Fannie (Lipman) Lipshutz. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1943. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1948 with a BSC degree. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1943 and served as a Tech 4 during World War II in the European Theater in England, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in April 1946.

He married Louetta Petersberger on Sept. 26, 1948, in Chicago, Ill. He was co-owner of Morey's and Raymond's Men's Store, entering the business in 1948 and retiring in 1997. He served as president for 19 years.

Mr. Lipshutz was a lifelong member of Congregation Beth Shalom, formerly Shaare Zion Synagogue, a member of the Jewish War Veterans, president of the Downtown Merchandising Counsel of Sioux City, president of the Jewish Federation of Sioux City and was a two-term member on the National Board of Menswear Retailers of America.

Survivors include his wife, Louetta; a son, Dr. Greg Lipshutz of Newton, Mass.; a daughter, Ruth Bovey of Oak Park, Ill.; two brothers, Robert Lipshutz of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Stan Lipshutz of Tiburon, Calif.; a grandson, Rafael Gregory of Newton; a granddaughter, Rachel Bovey of Oak Park; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
