Jack A. Krone, 85, longtime Sioux City resident, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Evanston, Ill.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Covenant Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dan Springer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 9 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Krone was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Sioux City, to Vera (Svensson) and Axel Krone, both Swedish immigrants. He graduated from Central High School in 1939.

He married Dorothy Holland on Sept. 23, 1939, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before moving to Covenant Village, a retirement community in Northbrook, Ill., in November 1999. Mrs. Krone passed away in February 2000.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a supply sergeant in France and Germany. Upon returning to Sioux City, he became employed at Albertson and Co. (later Sioux Tools), where he worked for 40 years. The couple spent their retirement dividing time between Sioux City and Tucson, Ariz.

He was an avid golfer and distinguished himself in many tournaments both in Sioux City and surrounding cities. Prior to World War II, he acted as assistant golf professional at Morningside Country Club.

He was a member of First Covenant Church, where he served on various boards and as an usher.

He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Nelson and Anita Botthof, both of Tucson, and Constance Barkley of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, Hilleary and Colin Nelson, Jarrett (Jill) Altmin, Ian and Tyler Botthof; and a brother, Don (Joyce) Krone of Peoria, Ariz.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace and Norman Krone; and a sister, Violet Bone.

Pallbearers will be Hilleary and Colin Nelson, Jarrett Altmin, Ian and Tyler Botthof, Matt Merry and Phillip and Kevin Krone.

Memorials in his name may be directed to the American Heart Association, the Chick Evans Golf Scholarship Program or the Alzheimers Association in Dorothy's name.

He was a man of integrity, goodness, love and devotion and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
