MOVILLE, Iowa | Gary W. Gruis Sr., 75, of Moville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at Kingsley Specialty Care in Kingsley, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Memorial services commemorating Gary's life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville.

Gary was born on March 14, 1941, in Sibley, Iowa, to Walbert and Dorothea (Steffenhagen) Gruis. The family relocated to Sioux City in 1945. He attended East High School.

Gary married Judy Millard on Sept. 19, 1958, in Elk Point, S.D. Gary worked for West Transportation until his retirement in 2006.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, football and especially watching his children's and grandchildren's activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Judy Gruis of Moville; three daughters, Marie (John) Forch of Moville, Pam O'Donnell of Charleston, S.C., and Missy (Nick Weaver) Gruis of Moville; a son, Gary (Tracy) Gruis Jr. of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter–in-law, Karla Gruis of Smithville, Mo.; sister-in-law, Betty Cook of Charleston; sister, Betty Conover of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Gruis; two brothers, Robert and Donald Gruis; and two sisters, Daisy Gruis and Lois Johnson.
