SIOUX CITY | Dee Retland, 68, of Sioux City passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at her home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb., with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, South Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Dee was born to Emmett and Ione (Phelps) Albenesius, on Sept. 3, 1947. She attended grade school in Brushy Bend, and graduated from South Sioux City High School. She attended Wayne State College and pursued a career as a medical technologist, working at Mercy Medical Center and their predecessors her entire career. She retired in November 2012.

Dee was married and later divorced. To that union two daughters, Amanda and Angela, were born.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux City. Dee loved to make peanut brittle (an old family tradition), and Christmas goodies. Her granddaughters, Abigail, Shaylee, Briella and Maya, were the center of her life. She looked forward to her daily conversations with the girls and their moms and was always proud to share pictures with everyone. She was looking forward to the birth of another Plueger granddaughter in August.

Dee is survived by her daughters, Amanda (Mike) Husmann, and their daughters, Abigail, Shaylee and Briella, and Angela (Troy) Plueger, and their daughter, Maya; her sister, Rosemary Albenesius; brother, Emmett (Carol) Albenesius; brother-in-law, Frank Vos; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Ione Albenesius; her sister, Darlene Vos; as well as aunts, uncles and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designations to be made at a later time.
