SIOUX CITY | Eugene H. "Gene" Weyer, 75, formerly of Sioux City passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, at his residence in Apache Junction, Ariz.

Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m. today at St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction.

Eugene Henry Weyer was born on July 21, 1940, in Webster, S.D., to George and Elizabeth (Tanata) Weyer. He grew up on the family farm two miles north of Roslyn S.D. He graduated from Roslyn High School in 1958. He relocated to Sioux City, where he worked at the Swift & Co. meat packing plant and also for the Frank Audino Construction Company. Eventually, he formed his own business and worked most of his life as a general contractor, repairman and all-around handyman.

In 1964, he married Diana L. Crabb of Sioux City. The couple resided on Rebecca Street on the city's west side where they raised their four children. Gene was an active member of the Men's Club at St. Boniface Church and regularly served as a bingo caller. The couple separated and Eugene relocated to live in San Diego, Calif., and then Mesa, Ariz.

He later married Ilene Fisher formerly of Roslyn. The couple resided in Arizona and in Colorado Springs, and spent their final years in Apache Junction, where Gene was an active church member and a regular attendee of daily Mass, also serving as a eucharistic minister.

He liked spending time outdoors, camping and fishing. He enjoyed working with his hands and was especially skilled at woodworking.

Eugene is survived by his former wife, Diana Buddi of Sioux City; their four children, Jim Weyer of Ashburn, Va., Jacqueline McFarland of Harrisonburg, Va., Jill Friessen of Folsom, Calif., and Janelle Weyer of Wellington, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Peter Weyer, of Watertown, S.D.; and a sister, Geni LaFramboise of Watertown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilene; a granddaughter, Jessica Weyer; his parents, George and Elizabeth; and two sisters, Betty Hauge and Delores Peterson.
