3 April 1986Roy 'Shorty' Swanson, 85, Sloan, died March 30, 1986 at his winter home in Mesa, Ariz., after a long illness.
He was born May 9, 1900, on the family farm near Sloan to Alfred and Anna Mary (Engstrom) Swanson. On February 19,1927, he married Vera Ashworth at Sioux City He farmed near Sloan until retiring in 1981 because of poor health. They had spent their winters in Arizona since 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Vera, a son, Richard of Sloan, a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Mary Lou) Nevin of Scottsdale, Ariz., a brother, Dwight Swanson of Sloan, a sister, Mrs. Alice Miller of Sloan, and two granddaughters, Mrs. William (Patti) Egge of Phoenix and Mrs. Gerald (Joni) Tod of Glendale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 4, 1986, at United Church of Christ Congregational, Sloan, with Rev Arthur G. Hermanson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Glen Miltenberger and the soloist, William Johnson, sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace."
Casket bearers were John Patterson, Mike Patterson, Tony Swanson, Bob Gay, John Lindberg, and Dale Rysdam.
Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan.
