SIOUX CITY | Helen G. Cory, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Helen was born on Oct. 13, 1924, in Sioux City, to John and Gertrude (Moniger) Wilton. She was united in marriage to Bernard D. Cory on Oct. 24, 1942, in Sioux City. Bernard passed away on Aug. 27, 1986.

Following World War II, Helen and Bernie owned and operated numerous businesses together. Helen managed the books for all of those businesses. Together, they started the taxi business in Sioux City with Metropolitan Cab. They then started Radio Cab, Cabs Inc., Dial A Ride, airport limousine service, and air freight service. In addition, they owned Bernie's Tire Shop, Bernie's Used Cars, and Bernie's Lawn & Garden Center. In 1991, she sold the cab businesses. One year later, in 1992, Helen started Metropolitan Cab, which she owned and operated until her retirement three years later.

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Church of All Nations, Girls of ’68, South Bottom Committee, and Goodwill Auxiliary (GIVS) where she was a volunteer.

Helen is survived by her five children, Bernadene (Keith) Logan of Portland, Ore., Barbara Reed of Remsen, Iowa, Patricia (Michael) Arduini of Remsen, Robert Cory (Cyndi Hand) of Sioux City, and Duane (Tammie) Cory of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Duane Cory, Robert Cory, Keith Logan, Adam Cory, Matt Stachowitz and Dave Cory.
