Donald Frank Johnson, 77, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Sioux City following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jon Gaul officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a Masonic service at 7 p.m. with a prayer service to follow, all at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Donald was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Charles and Golda Mae (Kelly) Johnson. He was raised on a farm near Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from February 1945 to September 1946.

He married Maxine E. Rose on Nov. 23, 1944, in Sioux City, where they made their home. Donald was employed with Westinghouse Electric, Williams Brothers Pipeline and the state of Iowa as a tax auditor. He retired in 1987.

Donald was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he taught ninth grade Sunday school for a number of years. He was a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M. and was a 32nd degree Mason. He also belonged to the Abu Bekr Foot Patrol and American Legion. He enjoyed wood carving, gardening and teaching ballroom dancing, which he and Maxine taught for 12 years. He also traveled extensively in the United States and abroad, but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Maxine of Sioux City; a daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Dennis Robinson of Sioux City; two sisters, Virgie Lund of Battle Creek, and Nadine Rude of Ute, Iowa; a granddaughter, Holly and her husband, Eric Erickson; two grandsons, Jeremy Robinson and Ryan Robinson and his wife, Marcia; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Eric Erickson, Holly Erickson, Larry Hare, Mike Levich, Jeremy Robinson, Marcia Robinson, Ryan Robinson and David Rose.

Memorials may be made in Donald's name to Hospice of Siouxland, 224 Fourth Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51101.
