Eugene G. Johnson, 74, of Hayward, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, Calif.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson was born July 30, 1927, in Billings, Mont. He was raised on a farm near Cherokee, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1953. After being discharged, he lived in Sioux City, where he was employed as a salesman for Warren Electric Co. He then moved to Hayward around 1960, where he was employed as a light fixture salesman for Galaxy Lighting Co.

He married Beverly Wickey on June 9, 1950, in Oakland, Calif. She died Sept. 30, 1992, in Hayward.

He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Larry Johnson of San Leandro, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Johnson Tobar of Haward, Calif.; a brother, Robert Johnson of Sioux City; two sisters, Violet and her husband, Pete Jansen of Sioux City, and Eunice Padilla of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Lucille (Park) Johnson; a son, Joey Johnson; and a daughter, Charlotte Sanders.
