Addelaide Sheffield Receives Summons

Mrs. Addelaide Sheffield, mother of Mrs. Walter Castle of this place, died Saturday in the Mercy hospital in Des Moines. The body arrived here Sunday morning over the Northwestern and was buried in the Correctionville Cemetery.

Addelaide Lee was born in Bedfordshire, England, September 15, 1832. In 1849 she came to America and was married at once to Thomas Clemo. To them was born one child, Mrs. Lillie Plato, who is still living. They went to Denver where her husband died. In 1861 she was married to John Sheffield who died in Anthon in 1899. To this marriage were born 4 children, Mrs. Walter Castle of Correctionville, Chas. Sheffield of Anthon, Mrs. H. Plato of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The deceased was united with the Methodist Church when young in life and died in good faith.

The funeral of Mrs. Addelaide Sheffield was held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from the Methodist Church. Rev. Taylor Bush officiated. The music was furnished by a quartet of Anthon people. Mrs. Thos. Madison, Miss Edna Lester, Mr. Heaton and Mr. Lester, Miss Anna Whitmer was pianist.

The pallbearers were: A.F. Whitmer, G.W. Fitchner, A. F. Voegel, H.L. Heidelberg, Thos. Madsen and John Rorak. The remains were buried in the Correctionville Cemetery.

For several years Mrs. Sheffield had made her home with her son, Chas. Sheffield in Anthon and this fall went to Des Moines to make her home. Just previous to her illness that caused her death, she fell and broke her leg. She was 81 years old.

The bereft have the sympathy of the people of Correctionville in the loss of a mother.

Among those from Anthon who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sheffield, Mr. and Mrs. Cor Plato, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Plato, Miss Sadie Plato, Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Kane, Dr. and Mrs. W.L. Stillman, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Rinker and a score of other Anthon people.
