SIOUX CITY | Vernon F. "Vern" Clay, 88, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on April 15, 2016, in Kingman, Ariz. following a brief illness.

Vern was born on March 31, 1928, to Frank and Effie (Halverson) Clay, in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City Public Schools. Vern then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1946. Following his military service, Vern returned to Sioux City and was employed at Armour and Co. until 1956. He then moved to Los Angels, Calif. Vern was employed with Yellow Freight until he retired in 1989. Following his retirement, Vern moved to Kingman.

Vern is survived by a brother, Norman (Corrine) Clay of Sioux City; his companion, Jean Brelsford of Kingman; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Frank) Clay of Bullhead, Ariz., and Marlene (Richard) Clay of Alta, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Jean Clay; and four brothers, Frank V. Clay Jr., Richard D. Clay, Donald L. Clay and William H. Clay.
