MOVILLE, Iowa | C. Catherine Chapman, 92, of Moville died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at her home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.

Catherine "Kay" was born on April 1, 1923, (Easter Sunday) in Kennebec, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Clara (Waples) Carroll. She attended schools in Castana and Turin, Iowa, graduating from Onawa (Iowa) High School. Kay continued her education by attending Normal School in Onawa to become a school teacher.

She married Howard "Bud" Chapman in 1941. To this union five children were born, Dennis, Gary, Jeannie, Buddie Ann and Kelly.

Over the years, Kay worked as a school teacher, at the battery plant during World War II, as a cattle rancher, a clerk at the sale barn, and as a dance instructor for over 20 years. She owned the Gem Movie Theater in Moville, was a clerk at the Moville Pharmacy, and secretary at the Woodbury County Fair. She had been working at the Woodbury County Library in Moville for almost 20 years. When she hit 90 years of age, she resigned to await the next opportunity.

Kay was a member of Moville United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star and was one of the founding members of the Meadows Golf Club. She volunteered at the Woodbury Central Elementary School, the Goodwill and the Senior Center. Kay had also instructed the Berry Patch Dancers.

Kay loved her family. She made each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel like they were her favorite one.

Kay is survived by her children, Gary (Susan) Chapman, Jeannie (Jeff) Crick, Buddie Ann (Russell) Spotts and Kelly (Donna) Chapman, all of Moville; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Chapman, Sara (Jason) Klingensmith, John (Kelly Anne) Lanham, Jesse Lanham, Jodi (Bret) Peterson, Justin (Amy) Crick, Alison (Sam) Probasco, Suzann Chapman, Rebecca (Jeff) Schultzen, Shawna (Tom) Dennison, Janna (Scott) Hiemstra and Levi (Diana) Chapman; 23 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Carter and Kyan Schultzen, Emma, Jack and Avery Lanham and William Engels, Jordan Lanham, Colby and Cade Klingensmith, Jacob, Ty and Halle Dennison, Jolee Sprinkle, Haley and Hudson Hiemstra, Leah and John Crick IV, Peyton Probasco, Lacy and Dakota Peterson, Dezarae and Savanna Gutierrez; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Chapman; Bud Chapman; six brothers; and three sisters.
