LAWTON, Iowa | Carol Lou Depew, 94, of Lawton passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at a care facility in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lawton Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. The Rev. Cindy Ripperger and Chaplain Jonathon Moravec will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Carol Lou was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Sioux City. She was the daughter of Herbert and Millie (Joseph) Marquart. Carol Lou grew up in rural Lawton, and attended school in Lawton. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1939 and then attended Wayne State College for two years and received her elementary school teaching certificate. In 1965, Carol Lou received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Morningside College.

Carol Lou taught elementary school in Everly, Iowa, Lawton, Iowa, and Whittier School in Sioux City.

On June 3, 1943, Carol Lou married Richard A. Davies. They farmed and lived on the "Clark Ranch" north of Lawton, where they raised livestock and traded horses including matched palomino parade horses. Dick passed away in 1952. She married Glen Rustin in 1954, and they lived in Lawton until building a new home in rural Lawton. Glen and Carol Lou loved to winter in Texas until he died March 21, 1981. Carol Lou continued to winter in Texas, where she met Chauncey Depew. They were married July 11, 1984. Chauncey and Carol Lou made their summer home in Hoyt Lake, Minn., and started to winter in Mesa, Ariz. Warmer weather found them RVing in all 50 states except Delaware. Chauncey passed away on Dec. 13, 2003.

Carol Lou enjoyed card playing, reading, walking, swimming, oil painting and knitting. She passed her driving license test at the age of 92.

Survivors include her son, Mark Davies (Kathy) of Lawton; a daughter-in-law, Julie Davies-Roost of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Kerri Davies-Poppen of Glendale, Ariz., Kelly Davies (Monica) of Chanhassen, Minn., Mike Davies of Sioux City, Jeri Schultz (Clifford) of Sioux City, Marrisa Davies (Brook) of Sioux City, and Merridith Davies-Vogt (Ron) of Sioux City; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Carol Lou was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ed Davies; sisters, Lois Thomas, Elaine Vincent Remmem; and her husbands, Dick Davies, Glen Rustin and Chauncey Depew.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Davies, Payton Poppen, Stan Griffith, Scott Watts, Brian McNaughton and Ron Herbold.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunrise Health Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their wonderful care and kindness toward Carol Lou and her family.

Memorials may be given in her name to the American Cancer Society.
