SIOUX CITY | Walter C. Lenz, 84, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Donna Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Walter was born on Oct. 18, 1931, in Sioux City. He was the son of Walter and Lucille (Bennett) Lenz. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1949. After graduation, Walter joined the United States Air Force and served in England. He served from 1949 until 1953.

On April 8, 1952, he married Ednalouise Winker in Harrisburg, Ill. Walter worked as a territorial claims adjuster for United Fire and Casualty Company in Cedar Rapids. He sold advertising for K T R I Radio in Sioux City for several years.

Walter sang with the Nordic Male Chorus. He was a former member of the Masons and the Abu Bekr Shrine. He played with several bands as a young man. He enjoyed fishing and working in his vegetable garden. He had a great love and appreciation for music but what he loved most was spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Ednalouise of Sioux City; his children, Mark (Brenda) Lenz of Lawrence, Kan., Sue May of Sioux City, David (Sherry) Lenz of Sergeant Bluff, Brenda (David) Sanford of Chalfont, Pa., and Luke Lenz of Omaha; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ronald (Diane) Lenz of Sergeant Bluff, and Gerald (Vicky) Lenz of Richland, S.D.; and his sister, Patricia (Jim) Duff of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Theodore Lenz.
