SIOUX CITY | Paul E. "Gene" Haley, 86, of North Canton, Ohio, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, after battling cancer for more than 24 years.

Services were held Feb. 11 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton. Burial with military rites was in North Canton Cemetery.

Paul was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Sioux City. He graduated from Trinity High School in Sioux City. Shortly after graduation, in August 1948, he entered the U.S. Army. He achieved the rank of sergeant first class and served nearly four years in Hawaii and Tokyo.

Upon leaving the service, he started his 40-year successful career with Sears, Roebuck and Company as a credit manager in numerous locations throughout the Midwest. His final 10 years before retirement were spent as Sears credit central manager in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.

Paul was a longtime parishioner, Eucharistic minister and Mass server at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Paul and his wife, Marge enjoyed traveling and cruising as often as possible, golf, cards, household projects or working in the yard. He especially enjoyed shelling walks on the beach during their years in Florida, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

Paul died peacefully on his 86th birthday and, more importantly to him, their 62nd wedding anniversary, while holding the hand of his loving wife. He spent his last several days surrounded by his loved ones in the care of Mercy Hospice.

Survivors include his wife, Marge; daughters, Diane (Thomas) Stock of Westerville, Ohio, and Deborah Russo of North Canton; six grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; sisters, Marie Haley of Sioux City and Pauline (Emery) Lacroix of Omaha, Neb.; brother-in-law, Gene (Nancy) Stanek; sisters-in-law, Marge and Patty Stanek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Wilma Haley; brothers, Edward Jr. and Wayne Haley; mother-in-law, Antoinette Stanek; and brothers-in-law, Joe and Bob Stanek
