Scott grew up in Sloan, Iowa where he graduated from Westwood High School in 1977. He enlisted into the Navy in 1978 and served for 4 years during the post-Vietnam War era, and was active in combat while trying to rescue American Prisoners of War. He was honorably discharged in 1982; however his experience in the military would impact him for the rest of his days. After leaving the military, he began his career as a Welder, and later went on to become a Journeyman Pipefitter through the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union-Local 33, where he had a successful career for over 19 years where he was known for being both a hard-worker and an asset sharing his knowledge with many apprentices over the years.
Scott married Katherine in 1981 in Norfolk, Virginia where they met while he was in the Navy, and they spent 34 years building a life full of memories together. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and searching for wild mushrooms. Scott also loved football, and would sometimes reminisce about his fond memories of playing football for Westwood High School. Scott was also known to fill the air with a larger than life laugh while cooking breakfast or grilling chicken in his signature cut-off shorts, tank top, and flip flops while happily preparing meals for his family, friends, and those he affectionately referred to as “his boys,” who were his union family. Scott could often be overheard expressing pride that like him, his daughter Raven is a military veteran, and his son, James “Chicken Nugget” is a Pipefitter Apprentice becoming skilled in the trade he loved.
Scott is survived by his spouse Katherine of Sloan, Iowa; his daughter Tiffany (Jason) Michaud of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, daughter Raven (Jason) Munhofen of Huntsville, Alabama, son James (Raquel) Munhofen of Sloan, Iowa; step-son Joel (Kristy) Tirey of Midland, Michigan; step-son Jason (Misty) Holman of Rhodes, Michigan; his parents James “Donald” and Donna Rae Munhofen of Sloan, Iowa; his brother Barry Munhofen of Sloan, Iowa, sister Melissa (Shawn) Jones of Frisco, Texas; his grandchildren Courtney, Haley, Makenzie, Charlie, Henry, Kristian, Gabrielle, Seth, Kristin, Ellah, Kaidan and Casey; and his nephews Blake and Hunter.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents Floyd and Valda Birdsall; and Jesse and Alice Munhofen
