5 August 2004Sylvester John Dwyer, 93, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Allan A. Reicks officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
The oldest of 11 children, Sylvester was born Dec. 28, 1910, in Collis, Minn., to John and Mary (Murray) Dwyer. He was united in marriage to Mary Kerner in Fargo, N.D. on Dec. 31, 1946. The family moved to Sioux City in 1961.
He was a truck driver for 40 years with several companies. He retired from United Buckingham. He was later employed with St. Luke's Regional Medical Center as a dispatcher.
An avid golfer, he enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and pool. He enjoyed watching the Cubs and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 77 and the Teamsters Union Local 383.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; four daughters, Deanna and her husband, Gary Intermill of Lynnwood, Wash., Barbara Horsley of St. Peters, Mo., Deb and her husband, Mark Protexter of Sioux City and Bonnie Jasman of Sioux City; a son and his wife, James and Virginia Dwyer of West Fargo, N.D.; five sisters; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Simonson of Fargo, N.D.; his parents; four brothers, Clyle, Cyril, Pat and Joe, all of Fargo; a sister, Beatrice Stone of Temple City, Calif.; a son-in-law, Larry Horsley of Sioux City; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Brad Horsley, Larry Horsley Jr., Brandon Jasman, Bryant Jasman, Mark Protexter and Gary Intermill.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
