Clifford F. Wynn, 85, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Mike Ring of Glad Tidings Lighthouse and Elder Jason Ludlow of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Navy Reserve Center of Sioux City and Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral Home.

Mr. Wynn was born Feb. 20, 1916 in Tripp, S.D., the son of Frank and Martha (Geigle) Wynn. He attended Central High School in Sioux City.

He served in the National Guard from 1936 to 1940. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. He was the first person drafted out of the state of South Dakota.

He married Louise G. Michel on July 7, 1942 in Omaha, Nebr. He had lived in Omaha, Minneapolis, Minn., and Sioux Falls, S.D. He farmed in the Minneapolis area and was employed with Milwaukee Railroad until 1949. In 1949, the couple moved to Sioux City. He then worked for the city of Sioux City as a heavy equipment operator and served as the secretary-treasurer for the city Workers Union.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, American Legion Monahan Post 64 and Disabled American Veterans Post 54. He was active as a Boy Scout Leader.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Vernon James and his wife, Carole of Salix, Iowa, and Charles Franklin of Sioux City; one brother, Leland James of Sioux City; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Scharrel; one grandson, Michel Wayne; one sister-in-law, Pauline Wynn; and a nephew.

Pallbearers will be members of Navy Reserve Center of Sioux City.
