Neilan E. “Mannie” Wood, 80, of Sioux City died Friday, February 19, 1999, at a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Elder Timothy Schmadeke of Jehovah’s Witnesses North Congregational officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Floyd Cemetery with flag presentation by Sergeant Floyd Post 1973 of the VFW.
Mr. Wood was born April 1, 1918, in Ponca, Nebr., to William and Gertrude (Babcock) Wood. He attended South Sioux City Schools. He married Vera Marie Tidd on Feb. 19, 1950, in Elk Point, S.D. She died December 28, 1997, in Sioux City.
He worked construction in the Sioux City area, then worked for Wilson Trailor Company for 25 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, North Congregation, and was also a member of Sgt. Floyd Post 1973. He served in the United States Army during World War II, Serving in France.
Survivors include three daughter and their husbands, Rita and Rick Lalumendre, of South Sioux City, Jessie and Tony Buss and Burnie and Jeff Petersen, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Nicole and Cortney Lalumendre, Hollie and Kristine Petersen, and Joseph and Jackie Rodriquez; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Burnist Matz and Helen Helt, both of South Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shari Duncan; a brother, nine sisters and a half-sister.
Pallbearers will be Tony Buss, Jeff Petersen, Rick Lalumendre, Travis Gill, Eric Waldee and Jack Hopkins.
