26 February 2001Donald E. Schomberg, 76, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at a Sioux City nursing and rehab center following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glen Rachuy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Cemetery.
Mr. Schomberg was born June 2, 1934, in McLean, Neb. He was raised by his grandparents and graduated from McLean High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He married Leona M. Weyhrich on Aug. 11, 1944, in McLean. They moved to Sioux City in 1944. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad from 1945 until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and Coachman RV Club. He enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling and riding bicycle.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Johnson and Sandra Schomberg, both of Sioux City; three granddaughters, Jessica and Mandy Johnson, and April Schomberg; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and an infant son.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland.
