Gordon L. Schmidt, 85, of Sioux City died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with The Rev. Paul Louis Arts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with family present from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. all at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Schmidt was born April 30, 1915, in Linn Grove, Iowa, the son of Harry and Jennie (Wihlen) Schmidt. He married Olga H. Thomas. She died in January 1996. He was a long-time resident of Sioux City. He worked for a serum company in Sioux City for many years and at IBP for several years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a former member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church and a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include two step-sons and their wives, Michael and Jerry Thomas of Arizona, and Gary and Marie Bucchino of Omaha; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in his name at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home and Hospice of Siouxland.
