Milo “Merle” Chedester, 70, of Sioux City died Friday, December 18, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Emory VanGerpen of Westlawn Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Chedester was born April 5, 1928, in Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Milo A. and Malinda (Thies) Chedester. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Esther E. Hinkel on November 11, 1953, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple lived in Mapleton, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1957. He began working at Miller-Kidder in 1957 and retired from Knoepfler Chevrolet in 1989, after 32 years.
He played with the Country Candidate Band for about 20 years. He also played with two groups at the Siouxland Senior Center.
He was a member of Sioux City Eagles Club and South Sioux City Legion Club. He enjoyed music, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers and their wives, Vernon and Catherine and Glen Robert and Julianne, all of Sioux City; four sisters, Izetta Coyle of Pisgah, Ardith Brenner of Sioux City, Lavonne and her husband, Darrell Uhl, of Mapleton and Shirley and her husband, Marlin Gunderson, of Kiron, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Levi.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Seeley, Doug Siefler, Randy and Ronne Coyle, Stu Brenner and Pete Siegner
