Marion Howard Schaller, 82, of Sioux City died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Third Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jim Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Open casket visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Closed casket visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Schaller was born June 18, 1920 in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Frances (Gould) Schaller. He was raised in the Earlville area and graduated from Earlville High School. He moved to Des Moines in 1941 and graduated from Drake University and received his certified public accountant license. He served in the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He married Clarice “Sally” Swanson on May 24, 1942, in Des Moines. He worked for various companies in Des Moines. He moved He moved to Sioux City in 1974 and worked for various companies including the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home.

He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Men’s Club and served as a deacon. He was a Mason and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Schaller of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Don and Kitty Schaller of Asheville, N.C. and Gordon and Diane Schaller of San Juan Capistrano, California; a brother and his wife, Bert and Dee Schaller of Des Moines; s sister, Dorothy Boggio of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Bart, and Erin; and two great-grandchildren, Wade and Emmy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Clyde and Edgar Schaller.

Memorials may be directed to Third Presbyterian Church and Sioux City Chapter of the Alzheimers Association.
